Not Just Someone Else's Kid

Drug and alcohol abuse has become a reality for kids in our region. These kids come from families of all kinds — rich, poor, married, divorced, single parent — in every area of our communities. They are not just the kids who skateboard or the ones with piercings. They are NOT SOMEONE ELSE'S KIDS. They could be yours.

At Keeping Kids Safe, we want the people who live in our region to take an active role in keeping kids free of drugs and alcohol. Here are some important actions you can take:

  • Take a stand and say "no" to bush parties. Don't let your kid go. Talk to other parents and encourage each other to not let your kids attend.
  • Talk to your kid about drugs. Don't lecture, just listen.
  • Encourage other activities in the community that challenge kids and keep them safe. Get involved!
  • Don't just give your kid money; find out what he or she is using it for.
  • Don't support drinking because "it's normal and every kid does it." Say no to parties and activities that encourage drinking.
  • Know your kid's friends.
  • Give credit where credit is due. Every community has a group of kids on our Keeping Kids Safe committee. They are all volunteering their time to help out. Give them your time and your support.
  • Give your kids the URL for this website: www.staycrystalclear.com.
