Magic Mushrooms

Also Known As: shrooms, caps, mushrooms, psilocybin and psilocyn.

What You Should Know:

Magic Mushrooms may be sold as dried whole mushrooms or a brown powdered material. They contain Psilocybin, a hallucinogenic substance that also comes in a white powder, tablets, or capsules. They are typically eaten or brewed as tea. The effects are very unpredictable.

What's the Problem?

  • You may feel dizzy or lightheaded and get stomach cramps and nausea.
  • Your blood pressure and heart rate will rise, and you may feel anxiety.
  • Other drugs can be mixed in with psilocybin that can give you a bad reaction.
  • Since it's very hard to tell some mushroom varieties apart; the risk of accidentally eating a poisonous mushroom is high. Some poisonous mushrooms can be fatal within hours.
  • Some users may get “flashbacks” or “hallucinogens persisting perception disorder” (HPPD), which are reoccurrences of hallucinations users experience long after taking the drug.
